Alienware X15 and X17 gaming laptops : the brand's most powerful models
Alienware is one of the leading manufacturer of video game hardware , but we haven't seen anything like it before techwadia. The Dell owned brand has just launched the X Series, a new category of notebooks designed to deliver the ultimate gaming experience, without compromise.
As you
might expect, these devices won't be cheap. Currently, the cheapest route
into the X Series is the new Alienware X15, which starts at $ 1,999.99. The
larger Alienware X17 costs at least $ 100 more, although the two have a lot in
common.
That
includes Intel's new Tiger Lake-H series, processors designed specifically for
gaming. The cheapest models are equipped with a Core i7-11800H CPU, but
there is some variation if you are willing to pay more. The X15 maxes out
at a Core i9-11900H, but higher spec X17 configurations offer the Core
i9-11900HK.
However,
you are unlikely to notice a big difference between these two chips, as they
are both paired with Nvidia's flagship graphics cards. At those starting
prices you get a discrete RTX 3060 GPU, although the 3070 and 3080 are also
available as upgrades.
The X15 has options of 16 or 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, but the X17 has an extra 64 GB version and is the only one that allows you to update it manually. Both devices have plenty of options when it comes to local storage, with SSDs ranging from a single 256GB drive to a dual external configuration with 4TB of total capacity.
Screen
size is the most obvious differentiating factor between the two (15.6 inches vs
17.3 inches), although they both start with a Full HD (1920x1080) display at
165Hz. A 360 Hz panel with the same resolution is also available, but
higher spec models go up to 2560 x 1440 at 240 Hz. Most importantly, all
options cover the entire sRGB gamut and at least 99% of the DCI -P3, ensuring
excellent color accuracy.
Alienware
has also put a lot of focus on thermal management for the X series. The X15 and
X17 incorporate advanced Cryo-Tech cooling technology, which consists of a
newly patented quad fan design. Alienware claims that each of the blades
can function independently, based on data from sensors built into the device. You'll
also find steam cooling technology in the X17.
There are
also five gaming-focused hardware configurations, ranging from a full
performance mode to a battery saver option to conserve power. The X15 and
X17 have 87Wh cells, and both have 240W chargers in the box.
Other
notable features are a good selection of ports and the Cherry MX keyboard,
which debuted on the Alienware M15 R4. However, the latter is exclusive to
the X17.
It's an
impressive set of specs for anyone, but the price is worth reiterating. The
Alienware X15 starts at $ 1,999.99, while the X17 models cost at least $
2,099.99.
Limited
configurations will be available on Dell's US site on June 1, before all
variants go on sale starting June 15. However, this information is
specific to the US; Worldwide pricing and availability have not yet been
disclosed.
The X15
and X17 are expected to be the first X series notebooks, so more Alienware
devices will be coming soon. Until then, it will be interesting to see if
these devices offer enough value for money to be considered among the best
gaming laptops.
